Install gutter joints.

Almost all home centers and full service hardware stores sell guttering designed for easy installation. Diy gutter replacement can save you. Evaluate and plan the gutter replacement project. Step 1 place the top lip of the slip joint s back over the top of the rear edge of the two gutter pieces.

Pvc or vinyl gutters are designed to snap together easily but may require the use of gaskets or a sealant to ensure a waterproof connection. Next install a downspout outlet fitting in the gutter. Caps come in left and right profiles and can be mechanically fastened with screws or rivets or simply glued in place with gutter lap sealer. When installing metal gutters the process involves overlapping the two pieces and riveting them together.

While gutters can be connected before hanging it often is easier to first hang the gutters then install the slip joints. Joining gutter sections together is a fairly simple job. Align the slip joint so it fits evenly over both sections of gutter. We riveted the top front flange and used lap seal caulk on the rest of the joint.
